Seeking the State of Balance
As a way of reflection, I would like to share in this text the way of thinking that I've been following in regard of my profissional life and, in some areas, my personal life.
What I call a "state of balance" is a material state where my skills and the paths and challenges I face are, as much as possible, balanced, so that experiences, problem-solving, and situation handling occur naturally.
To achieve a state of balance in a given area of our life, it is necessary to work with two main variables: our skills regarding that area and the complexity that we face in that area.
With these variables in mind, we must be aware that an excess of skill in an area where complexity is low will lead to boredom, and boredom itself generates feelings of wasted time and lack of purpose, which makes any and all tasks in this field unpleasant.
On the other hand, being in an area where complexity exceeds your skill level too much will lead to anxiety, and anxiety marks the beginning of the search for the future (a future where you are comfortable to solve those tasks), the forgetting of the present, and the feeling of being stuck in the past.
Both extremes lead to dissatisfaction with the present moment. To avoid this, we must seek environments and situations that are complex enough to allow us to evolve our knowledge and skills, helping us to avoiding both boredom and anxiety.
This may seem obvious, but I believe that highlighting "obvious" topics is great for becoming aware of our priorities and the paths we want to follow.
That's it for today, take care!
